Vaishnavi - JNAFAU, Hyderabad shares her BFA Coaching experience at Hyderabad location
'I practiced a lot at MAD School. We were often given tasks that had to be completed within 30 minutes, and if we couldn’t finish them in that time, we had to start all over again. This practice helped me a lot during the bfa entrance exam. Because I had trained under time pressure so many times, I was able to work much faster compared to others in the room'
The essential discipline required for this program is your natural interest in art, along with a passion for creating and imagining. The candidate needs to be radical in their ideas but also practical enough to create works of originality and inspiration.
Eligibility for Fine Arts consists of students applying after completing their HSC (10+2) studies. Students from any stream are eligible to apply.
The BFA program at JNAFAU is conducted by the Department of Painting & Visual Communication. It is a four-year program:
The total intake consists of 20 students for each discipline. Admission requires clearing a written exam.
There are two sets of question papers:

Draw an object placed in front of you using a pencil. The drawing should be proportionate to the paper size and pencil-shaded.
Draw and colour a scene, e.g., a bus stand, from memory using watercolours.
Answer multiple-choice questions within 50 minutes. There is no negative marking.
The scope in fine arts is vast, with a salary range from ₹3.56 lakh to ₹1.3 crore per year depending on industry and experience.

The entrance exam is held every year in the first week of July, with results declared in the third week of July. Visit the official website for exact dates: JNAFAU BFA Program.
A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is an undergraduate degree that focuses on developing artistic skills, creativity, and visual expression. Students receive practical training in areas such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Applied Arts, Visual Communication, Photography, and other creative disciplines, depending on the college and specialisation.
Students who have completed or are appearing for Class 12 from a recognised board can apply for most BFA programmes. Eligibility requirements may vary depending on the university or college.
Yes. Students from Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities backgrounds can pursue a BFA, provided they meet the eligibility requirements of their chosen institution.
Drawing is an important skill for most BFA entrance exams and courses. However, students do not need to be professional artists before joining. With regular practice and proper guidance, drawing skills improve significantly over time.
The coaching programme covers observational drawing, still life, human figures, perspective drawing, memory drawing, composition, colour theory, painting techniques, creative thinking, portfolio preparation (where required), mock tests, and previous years' entrance exam practice.
MAD School prepares students for entrance examinations conducted by leading Fine Arts colleges and universities across India. Preparation is tailored according to the admission requirements of the institutions students wish to apply to.
No. Some colleges admit students based on entrance examinations, while others may consider merit, interviews, portfolios, or a combination of admission criteria.
Yes. Students receive guidance on portfolio selection, artwork presentation, composition, and showcasing their artistic strengths wherever a portfolio is required.
Absolutely. Many students begin with little or no formal training in Fine Arts. The course gradually develops drawing techniques, observation skills, creativity, colour understanding, and artistic confidence.
Students are assessed through regular drawing assignments, painting exercises, composition work, mock entrance tests, portfolio reviews, and personalised feedback sessions.
Yes. Faculty members provide individual feedback to help students improve proportions, perspective, composition, colour application, creativity, and presentation.
Students typically require basic drawing and painting materials such as pencils, erasers, sketchbooks, colours, brushes, and other art supplies. A detailed list is shared during admission.
Yes. Students receive drawing practice sheets, assignments, creative exercises, previous years' question discussions, mock tests, and faculty guidance throughout the course.
Some common mistakes include:
Practising only one style of drawing.
Ignoring perspective and composition.
Not drawing from real-life observation.
Relying heavily on copying images.
Neglecting colour theory.
Not managing time during practical exams.
Waiting until the last minute to prepare a portfolio.
Students can begin as early as Class 11, but many also start in Class 12 and prepare successfully with regular practice and consistent guidance.
Yes. Students and parents can contact MAD School to enquire about demo classes, counselling sessions, or classroom interactions before joining.
BFA is a great choice for students who genuinely enjoy drawing, painting, visual storytelling, and artistic expression. If you enjoy creating original artwork, experimenting with different art forms, and developing your creative skills, a BFA programme may be a better fit than courses focused primarily on design or architecture. During counselling at MAD School, mentors help students understand the differences between BFA, B.Des, Architecture, and other creative career options so they can choose the path that best aligns with their interests and aspirations.
Students can join throughout the year depending on the available batches. Faculty members recommend a suitable batch based on the student's preparation level and target entrance examinations.
MAD School offers long-term, one-year, short-term, weekend, and crash courses depending on the student's academic year and preparation timeline.
MAD School combines structured Fine Arts training with regular studio practice, mock entrance tests, portfolio guidance, personalised mentoring, and creative skill development. Students are encouraged to build strong artistic fundamentals while preparing confidently for Fine Arts entrance examinations.
A BFA degree can lead to careers such as Fine Artist, Illustrator, Painter, Graphic Designer, Art Teacher, Animator, Concept Artist, Art Director, Visualiser, Photographer, Printmaker, Sculptor, Art Curator, Mural Artist, Tattoo Artist, Exhibition Designer, and many other creative professions. Many graduates also pursue higher studies such as MFA (Master of Fine Arts).
A BFA focuses primarily on artistic expression, drawing, painting, sculpture, and visual arts, whereas a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) focuses on solving real-world problems through design disciplines such as Product Design, Communication Design, Fashion Design, and UI/UX. The right course depends on your interests and career goals.
Yes. Many BFA graduates specialise further in Graphic Design, Animation, Digital Art, Illustration, Game Art, Concept Art, and Visual Effects through additional courses or professional experience.
Yes. The creative industry continues to grow across advertising, publishing, entertainment, education, gaming, digital media, and visual arts. Students with strong artistic skills and a compelling portfolio can build rewarding careers in a wide range of creative fields.
