CEPT University focuses on understanding, designing, planning, constructing, and managing human habitats. Its teaching programs build thoughtful professionals, and its research programs deepen understanding of human habitat. CEPT University also undertakes advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats more livable. Through its education, research, and advisory activities, CEPT strives to improve the impact of habitat professions in enriching the lives of people in India's villages, towns, and cities.
The University comprises five faculties. The Faculty of Architecture was established in 1962. It focuses on design in the private realm. The Faculty of Planning, focused on planning in the public realm, was established in 1972. The Faculty of Technology, which concentrates on engineering and construction, was established in 1982. The Faculty of Design was established in 1992. It deals with habitat-related interiors, crafts, systems, and products. CEPT and the various schools that it comprised were established by the Ahmedabad Education Society with the support of the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India. The Government of Gujarat incorporated the erstwhile ‘Center for Environmental Planning and Technology’ (CEPT) as a CEPT university in 2005. The University Grants Commission recognized CEPT University under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 in 2007. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India recognizes the University as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO).
The Central Admissions Office of the CEPT University helps develop innovative communication strategies, recruitment strategies, and enrolment plans for prospective students. It facilitates students with relevant and timely information based on standard admissions policies.
The office guides the prospective students on courses, application and admissions procedures, financials, available facilities, and career prospects.
The admissions office liaises between the University and students through its numerous initiatives, engaging with them through orientation programs, education fairs, counselling process, open houses, personal interaction, amongst others. Footwear Design & Development Institute was established in 1986, under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India with major objectives:
- To Develop Human Resources within the country by imparting appropriate knowledge and skills to promote the rapid growth of footwear and allied industry in the country.
- To provide and develop appropriate infrastructure for the Indian footwear industry to enable it attain international standards of production and
- To particularly promote the growth of export production of quality footwear and allied products from the country.
FDDI is playing a key role in imparting education, facilitating the Indian industry by bridging the skill gap in the areas of Footwear, Leather Accessory & lifestyle product, and because of its continuous contribution towards nation building, FDDI has been granted the status of “An Institution of National Importance” under the FDDI Act 2017.
FDDI is a premier academic and training institution dedicated to the development and growth of the Footwear & Product, Leather Products, Retail and Fashion Merchandise and Fashion Design sectors. FDDI has Pan India Presence with 12 state-of-art campuses spread across the country.
