About CEED

CEED abbreviates into Common Entrance exam for Design held every year jointly at IITs and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISC) at All India Level. CEED Entrance exam is hosted by Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

What is CEED 2019 all about and what’s new in CEED 2019?

It is basically a descriptive test conducted to test the students in particular areas like Logical, Creative, Observation and drawing skills for admissions to various design courses offered.

The newness about CEED 2019 is that the number of exam centers has been increased from 20 to 24. The candidates who miss out on applying by November 9th, 2018 can apple till November 16th with a late fee of Rs. 500.

CEED 2019 Admit card

The admit card for CEED 2019 will be available from January 1 when released by Indian Institute of Technology. Candidates can download the admit card by logging in using their email address and password. The exam will be conducted by IIT Bombay on January 19 for Masters of Design (M.Des) programme offered by IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bombay, IITDM Jabalpur, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Delhi, and IISc Bangalore.

CEED 2019 Exam Pattern

CEED 2019 exam pattern section includes important information about the entrance exam such as duration, language, total number of questions, marking scheme, etc. Having a fair idea of the exam pattern beforehand will help the candidate in the preparation of the exam.

  • CEED 2019 will include 2 parts – Part A and Part B
  • Part A is a computer based test and will comprise of multiple choice questions (MCQs)
  • CEED 2019 part B will comprise of questions on Drawing, Writing and designing. A separate answer sheet is given for Part B to evaluate the candidates on various factors like drawing, etc.
  • The time duration for the CEED 2019 will be for 3 hours, one hour for Part A and rest 2 hours for Part B.
  • Candidate has to clear the Part A exam in order to be shortlisted for Part B. Only Part B marks will be considered for merit list preparation.

CEED 2019 Eligibility Criteria

This section covers the eligibility criteria for all the CEED aspirants wanting to appear for CEED exam.

  • Candidates should have passed a degree/diploma/ postgraduate degree programme of 4 years or 3+2 years in order to apply.
  • GD Art (A 4-year program after 1-year foundation. Minimum entry requires the 10th pass)

CEED 2019 Application form

The last date for filing the CEED application form with late fees is on November 20. All the aspirants are required to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for CEED 2019. Eligible aspirants can fill up the application forms for CEED 2019 from October 9th to November 14th, 2018. The application form will comprise the fields for academic and personal details in the application form. Once the application is filled, candidates will have to pay the application fee.

CEED Sample Papers 2019

Candidates appearing for CEED 2019 are suggested to solve sample papers to have a clear idea about the kind of questions asked and the exam pattern he/she has to answer for. Below are the sample papers that will help CEED aspirants prepare well.

CEED Results 2019

The CEED results will be available online on March 4th onwards. The candidates can check the results by simply logging in with the email address and password. From the date of the results announcement, the CEED score card has the validity of one year.

CEED Score card 2019 can be downloaded online from March 4th onwards, note that only candidates who have appeared for the CEED exam 2019 can download the score card.

CEED Cutoff 2019

CEED 2019 cutoff is the minimum marks that the candidate scores in order to be eligible for admissions. Anyone scoring less that the cutoff for CEED 2019 will not be shortlisted for admissions in Master of Design programmers across the participating institutes. Only candidates who have scored marks equal to or more than the CEED 2019 cutoff will get through for the admission.

IIT Bombay would announce the cutoff for CEED 2019 that will be used to screen candidates for part B.

CEED 2019 Cutoff Part A

  • Cutoff marks for General category- For candidates who belong to the General category, the CEED 2019 cutoff will be calculated as below:

X + ½ Σ, where X is the average marks secured by the candidate in Part A and Σ is the standard deviation

  • Cutoff marks for OBC-NCL category- For candidates who belong to OBC-NCL category, the cutoff will be 90% of the general category.
  • Cutoff marks for ST, SC, PWD category- For candidates who belong to SC, ST and PWD category, the cutoff will be 50% of the general category.

Minimum marks to be scored in Part A to get shortlisted

CEED 2019 cutoff for Part B

Part B has a total of 8 questions, out of which questions 1 to 5 will be for 50 marks each. Candidates taking the test will have to attempt any one of these questions. The answers will be evaluated manually, and the score ‘S’ will be calculated by using this formula:

S = {(m − μi) Σ / σi} + A


  • m= is the raw marks obtained in question i
  • μi = the average of the raw marks scored by all candidates who attempted question i
  • σi = the standard deviation of the raw marks secured by all candidates who attempted question i

A = 25 and Σ = 6 are chosen to be the average and the standard deviation, respectively, of the distribution of scores ‘S’. If the calculated ‘S’ score for any candidate is less than 0, then all such scores will be considered at 0, and if the calculated ‘S’ score for any candidate is more than 50, then all such scores will be capped at 50.

Marks scored by the candidates in other questions in Part B section will be added to ‘S’ for obtaining the part B score. The final CEED scored will be calculated by giving 25% weightage to the score secured in Part A and the rest 75% to the marks scored in Part after the calculation.

CEED Counseling 2019

No common counseling for CEED 2019 will be conducted by IIT Bombay. The participating instituted will hold CEED 2019 counseling individually for the admissions for Maters of Design. Candidates will require to apple separately for admissions to these institutes. These individual institutes will most likely conduct an aptitude test and interview as a part of admission process. The candidate has to qualify CEED 2019 to participate in this admission procedure conducted by these participating institutes. It is advised to carry the candidate’s portfolio for the interview for the evaluation the candidate’s ability for designing and sketching.
